Day 261-262 Repairig damaged countertop in galley, main sail measurements, AIS issues, sonme small things, AND NICE SAILING

Very active sailing day on Sunday 

20-25kn wind and 2-3ft sea with 34 seconds period. Almost horse back riding.

Well working autopilot make difference ;-) 

 

Saturday boat work  report

Repair countertop.

 

I had to re-sand and re-oil after mistakenly put a very hot coffee maker to countertop. It was a great idea to use tang oil to  finish galley countertop. After complete disaster (burned circle) I was able to do repair almost without evidence. Yes, some elbow grease had to be used but it is nothing compare to what it will be in case if surface would be varnished.

Check and proof possibility to get sound from my RPi5 over Bluetooth to have Openplotter to sound loud. 

 Made some adjustments on Autopilot (pypilot), decreased current over clutch to 30% and increased max rotation speed. Result is impressive, on Sunday we cruised under autopilot at short period 2-3 ft sea with 20-25kn wind with no drama.

 My Maiana AIS have got water (somehow) and GPS stopped to work. However AIS receiver worked without issues ;-) cleaning, drying did not help. Likely I killed the board, but before throwing it out I plan to try to replace GPS on it.

 

 

 

 Other disappointment around AIS - ALUMINUM bracket appeared to be zinc alloy covered with chromium. disintegrated in sea environment in 3 weeks.

 

 

 

 Cleaned STW sensor and SURPRISE! It works. Re-calibrated it.

Spliced lines on my sail pack, they was just tied  with knots and excessive rope always tried to get jamed in a zipper.

Disconnected house battery from alternator, it was not very vise decision to charge LiFePo battery from engine alternator without thermal control over alternator coils. 

 

Measured and cut trimming to cover over lightning protection ground wire. Parts measured, need to make it right in the garage then install on place.

Took main sail dimensions to order new sail. old one has hundreds on pinholes and stretched a lot.  Going with Far East Sales.
