Cabin sole rebuild story
What was there?
All plywood rotted, and a very weathered gelcoat.
What I found? Even most ply looks so-so it was full of rot.
Time to remove old stuff. And my son provided great help.
Old floor removed
One more day of sanding to get rid of old adhesive.
I we made brown (red) paper templates, then cut cheap MDF 1/8 in wall panel based on paper templated plus 1/2 inch around.
Then, fit them in the boat using jigsaw, and sander to make them close fit.
Brown and shiny white are the template panels.
On some gelcoat sections I decided to do no-skid surface. main problem with floor under the cabin table and sloped areas in front cabin and galley.
Areas are prepared to put kiwigrip.
Then I assembled floor sections in the garage, close to size to templates, Put masking tape between panels on top and duct tape on the bottom to keep planks together.
Cut almost to size with jigsaw.
And trimmed sections to templates with wood router with template bit.
Installed whole sections using 3m 4200 polyurethane and compressed everything with sand bags. Yes 16 of 50lb sand bags keep panels on place.
It was fun to see how neighbors on the marina watch me dragging sand bags to the boat.
I used Oak Gray 6-mil x 6-in W x 36-in L Waterproof Interlocking Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (22.17-sq ft/ Carton). I used exactly 2 cartons of the flooring.
6mm thickness is exactly the same as original Teak and holy plywood was.
Work finished! Enjoy view!
