Day 229, Jailbreak Part 3, Mast down.

Mast, Step-down, step3.   Whole day was little cursed.   My friend Engine and me agreed to meet at 7AM but he had to do detour before come to marine, so he came at about 9pm. two hours on nice chill weather was lost. then we figured out i forgot climbing gear box. and I had to ride home and back, so we lost one more hour. Later I regret about these gold hours...  we had 26C that day, but full strength Texas sum. I think at least three times i was under edge of heat stroke. Later we have "dropped" mast from about 2 " (inches) to front and back reeling because rope used in lifting pulley system just ended when I peyed it to lower the mast. I was too concentrated to how and where to land mast and forget to control end of the rope. Next issue, when we lowered down "A" frame we put too much side load on one of legs and 2x4 snapped, but no injury or damage happened, just fast uncontrollable descend ;-).      Furler down.  First of all before starting...

Day 228, Jailbreak part2, Building A-frame for stepping mast down.

Mast, Step-down, step2.   As part of preparation to move I need to step must down for transportation. I was inspired by this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbOTOOzHOu4 Today i built my a-frame using 2x4 wood.  Frame sides made of 4 10" boards each middle section is two boards sandwiching boards on ends. bolted together forming almost 3 board length  legs.   Frame height is considered to be about 3 ft above center of gravity of the mast. ~24ft.  Bottom board was shorted about 2 ft and cut under the angle to have better surface contact with deck and use toe rail to prevent legs to slide over board. With 1.5 feet overlap total length of the each leg get to 25ft long.   Planning cross members  configuration     I put legs on the deck and connected top points of the legs  with eye bolt which will be used to hoist the mast.   Legs are ready to be hoisted.   Use main halyard to lift frame   Single-handed lifting up ...

Day 227, Jailbreak, part1

Jailbreak, Part1   Preparing boat from.... jailbreak. Actually34 foot boat sits in relatively small lake without any waterway connection to  BIG water. I think i need to fix it, we are going to move her to BIG water.   prepare her for transportation. Take mast down and fix it over the deck., drain tankage,  take all unnecessary stuff from the boat. Transport her to "Spa". I plan to move boat to boatyard to do all work on hull I could not do in the water and postponed.  Put boat on hard for several month in Rockport to finish project list: Replace thru-hulls to composite; Fix strut; Make lightning protection ground; Check and repair rudder (if need); Replace hinge pin on centerboard (depends on how bad is it); Repair anything I find on the hull under water. (i am pretty sure there is something to repair); Prepare topsides for painting; Remove all ald bottom paint and  apply barrier-coat; Paint topsides and put new anti-fouling bottom paint; Recond...
