Day 52, 10/16, Day Water tank, Life lines, Galley cabinet sanding, Sunset sailing, 6 hours work and 4 hours sail.

Lifelines

New lines installed.

As soon as boat is in drying lake I did not rush lifelines installation, but this week I have  invited friends family  with two kids about 7 years old, so lines appeared to be absolutely essential even if anybody can just swim to hard. Lake in widest place not exceed 3000 ft.

I decided to use 1/4 Samson AmSteel® 12-Strand Dyneema,  https://sregear.com/products/1-4-gray-amsteel-600-spool

For now I did only top line. I measured 27ft on each side, added 3ft for splicing and multiply 2 total 6ft  should be more than enough. Right?

WRONG, because there 4 splicings on each side - not 2. Why?... enter gate.

And I figured it out right when went to make last splice ;-)  Ok, will buy more when order rope for bottom line.

It was my first Brummel Eye Splice, looks not bad

For the entry gate I put rope Thimble on one side and original Pelican Hook. I grind and polished hook eye to make it easy on rope. I admit, it is too small radius (Min by AmSteel - 3/4in) for 1/4 dyneema rope, but as soon as it MUCH stronger than poles (spec claim 7400lb) I will live it this way for now.

Water tank

In some of previous week I tell I found tank leaking.

Today start sanding whole surface to remove some flaking paint and open the crack on the tank bottom.

And found.. pretty big void in bottom of the tank.

Tank after sanding, Void I found is located left from center, just one place , but lateral crack through whole bottom.

To fix leakage i did glassing over whole bottom surface. two layers 1708 was laminated on the bottom corner.

Me and tank ;-) First, covering surface with thickened resin

Put second layer wet to wet. Layers put with small shift to eliminate step.

Work finished and curing.

Workplace for wetting glass. Table covered with butcher paper to prevent resin to ruin my table. Also  butcher paper is used as we glass is not sticking to it.

Bulkhead glassing

I have completed tabbing on port-side bulkhead .

Bulkhead was not tabbed form head side due to access to corner was obstructed with the holding tank pump-out hose earlier. Tabbing to deck and to hull.

Interior

This week we have some progress in refinishing preparation.
Galley surface cabinet sanded. I am planning to paint it in milk white color like original gelcoated interior elements as much as I can mach color. Trim corners will be left wooden look.
Why paint? Because original plywood has water damage all around about a 15" from floor surface.

Sunset sail.

On way out of marina.

Me and my lovely wife Maria day before our 24 anniversary .
