Day 38-39, 7/23-7/24, Mast steps installed, Port window installation Part 3, Air conditioner test on board, Hand pump Installation back; 15 hours

Mast steps

Installed permanent mast steps, Why permanent? Because I likely will sail and maintain boat 99% singlehanded and I want to be easy, safe and have access to my mast top. To prevent comments, I should not do it, Yes, I admit, bit lost in performance, some weight added to mast and possibly some lost in mast strength  - 2x4.7mm holes on one level on 500mm mast perimeter - coming to about 2%, however it is nothing compare to  halyard exit slots and cable out holes.

Steps was made form 6063-T52  0.1875x1.25x12" aluminum bar. It is less strong than 6061 and 5052, but has good anti-corrosion properties.

More information about steps manufacturing process will put in special article about. Yes, I manufactured them.

Looks little odd, but during the tome I installed them, two people walking thru the dock said thay want to have the same. ;)

 Windows

Work in progress. With son's help removed old, cracked, leaking plastic windows to replace with new plastic. Going to metal will be later or much later.

Cut old out, removed old plywood in-layer added slope shims to setup windows 2 degree more vertical than cabin wall to provide them opportunity to drain themself. Next visit will install inner layer and _maybe_ put windows.

Windows removed. Easiest way was cut side section with wood saw and than, collapse them inside the opening. Found the original sealant (looks like 5200) did not keep good contact with plastic. Going to contact Bomar to suggest what prep work should be done for theirs windows.

Shim to put between hull and window face from inside. Made on CNC to make precede angle.

Windows cleaned from old interion plywood and shims are put on. Also Additional 1/2 inch plywood added below the window for interior plywood support.

Bilge hand pump

Pump installed back. Checked self-priming - works well.

Air conditioner

Water discharge thru-hull  installation. Air conditioner test run.
All clamped with single crappy clamps,  hoses are not trimmed, water strainer and pump are not mounted yet ( need to epoxy wood blocks to mount them), power is not permanently routed, unit is not permanently screw to the mount. Seacocks are gate valves and there plan to replace them as soon I get to hard.

All assembled for test run purpose only.   Checked water flow thru condenser. It is about 15 liters/min as required for AC unit. Air flow is nice and cool.;)
